Senior EH&S Manager

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will drive world class EHSS performance in a Research and Development laboratory environment. Role is focused on Chemistry Safety, Risk Assessment and Safety Engineering.
In depth understanding of small molecules, chemistry, and biology laboratory operations is required to ensure EHSS requirements are met. The candidate is expected to have strong leadership skills to affect change and influence R&D leadership to achieve and drive significant change and improvement through proactive process improvements by:
Delivers results through influence and communicating effectively with clients and through practical integration of EHS processes with business practices.
Independently take actions to drive improvement in EHS performance in key program areas.
Manage complex problems and coordinate the implementation of innovative solutions.
Change agent who drives improvement in a matrixed environment.
Functions (Duties/Accountabilities):
- Provide Client support (EHSS advance culture change, training, risk reviews, incident investigations, change controls, etc.) to small molecules research and development department.
- Conduct laboratory based process and risk assessments and ensure employees are trained and appropriate engineering controls are in place to minimize employee risk.
- Site subject matter expert for complex or particularly high hazard Risk Assessment using process hazard evaluation techniques such as What If, HAZOP, FMEA etc. to support site EHS and Engineering deliverables.
- Serves as program owner and subject matter expert for small molecules safety compliance and change control programs.
- Assist with engineering design reviews.
- Conducts analyses of incident causes and associated hazards to be used to target specific prevention strategies in laboratory environments, specifically related to chemistry labs.
- Lead or supports Incident Investigation and/or Root Cause Analysis, for particularly technically complex or high hazard incidents.
- Makes recommendations to management regarding potential environmental, health, and safety business impacts.
- Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed.
- Establish safe work procedures for hazardous work being performed in chemical and biological laboratories.
- Analyze metrics and establish action plans to drive continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Corporate Services experience; Or
Associate's degree and 10 years of Corporate Services experience; Or
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Corporate Services experience; Or
Master's degree and 4 years of Corporate Services experience; Or
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Corporate Services experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in, chemical engineering, engineering, chemistry, biology or other science areas, or environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene.
- Experience in Risk Management, including developing and implementing EHS risk management programs in - Chemical and Biological laboratory operations.
- Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological laboratory operations.
- Proven success in managing change control programs.
- Familiarity with typical project documents including process diagrams, P&ID's, equipment specifications, design drawings etc.
- Experience in Process Hazard Analysis, including one or more of Hazop, What-If, PrHA, FMEA
- Familiarity with risks and controls around high potency compounds and explosive atmospheres.
- Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS principles and practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities.
- Well-developed skills in leadership, communication, program development and project management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems.
